Another trans question

I just bought this truck about three weeks ago and love it so far.

There is something going on with the trans. The previous owner(my bosses dad) had the trans rebuilt about 8k miles ago. It seems to shift fine as long as you are light on the GO pedal. Anything more then half throttle it wont shift unless I let off the gas. It doesnt want to shift above 2200 or so.

I also noticed one day when I was on the interstate trying to pass someone around 65. I floored it and it almost felt like the truck slowed down. The RPMs kept rising but it thats about all. Released the pedal, applied gas lightly, and it accelerated just fine. I hope someone knows whats going on. Thanks guys.

Travis

By the way, truck has 149,000 miles on it.

Welcome Taucoin to DTR. 1st, Make sure the fluid level is correct. Check when warm, idling in neutral. Not park.

2nd Check to make sure the throttle valve cable to the trans is adjusted properly, lever on trans should move when the throttle does.

3rd, The bands may need to be adjusted, removal of pan is required so if you do the work change the filter.

I checked the level soon after I bought it and it was overfilled about 2 quarts. I got the level right, test drove it, checked it again and it was overfilled again. Ill have to look into that more tomorrow. I will check the cable and remove the pan and see what I find as well. I am towing my toyota on a 2,000 lb trailer to Tellico this weekend to go offroading so I need to figure it out as soon at possible.

Ill search on how to adjust the bands, thank you very much. Im normally on Pirate4x4(offroad forum) so Im not used to getting my questions answered. Its like your not allowed to ask anything there without getting flamed. Appreciate your help.

Yeah it kind of sounds like a fluid thing, Mine was doing this not long ago and when i got the fluid level right, all problems were solved.

Just make sure youre checking it properly because you'll get a different reading depending on whether the truck is off, or if its on and in Neutral...

good luck

x2 on checking the TV cable. It has an adjustment that controls the "passing" gear. Sounds like yours is adjust too far.

So tonight I pulled the pan, changed the filter, and adjusted there rear band. Didnt have enough time to adjust the front one yet. Ill do that tom as well as check the TV cable.

After adjusting just the rear band all seems to be the same. If I floor it it will jump to about 2400 quickly, then after around 2400 the RPMs will slowly rise. Def. Feels like something is slipping, TC? I sure as hell hope that adjusting the front band and the TV cable help.
