Are all 47re trannys the same (2nd/3rd gen)?

Is the 2003 47re the same as all the other 47re trannys? Will the 3rd gen 47re work in the 2nd gen truck?

I can get a 2003 V-10 47re but I don't want any surprises when I go to install it in my '98.

And what about 12-valve vs. 24-valve? Any differences there regarding the 47re?

Well, I hope it will work. I found one on ebay at the last minute. Brand new Mopar 2003 47re part number 1-05086289AA. Includes stock torque converter. I won the auction for $1095 plus freight. Might be a really good deal or a big paperweight

Pretty sure it will bolt in, but I put a 2001 trans for a diesel into my 98 12valve. ALMOST everything was perfect. Two main problems I had...

1. Temp sensor resistance is different, I had to add a resistor inline to make it work.
2. Pressure transducer (sensor) has the same problem, wrong resistance. I plan to solve that by swapping my old one into the trans. I will also swap the temp sensor at the same time and then remove my added resistor.

Not sure what years changes were made, so you might run into more differences on a 03.

I believe Torque Converters and valve bodies might not be the same for the gassers also. Might be best to swap your entire valve body and torque converter, unless you had a failure (don't want to contaminate the new trans.).

Might also consider ordering a new valve body and torque converter....you'll double your investment, but it will probably be worth it in the end.

The temp and pressure sensors, are they in the valve body or the trans body? I am hoping that the only major differences are the TC and valve body.

This 2003 V10 47re is brand new and I can get it for $1100. That's cheaper than having my trans rebuilt. I would buy a TC and valve body whether I buy this one, have mine built, or buy a built tranny. If I buy this 2003 then I get to keep my original 47re since I won't have to return it as a core. I can return the V10 valve body and my old stock TC as a core. Maybe I could sell the new V10 TC for a few bucks too.

I called a local trans guy today and he wasn't sure if the bolt pattern would be the same. But I think it is. I will probably get the TC and valve body from Goerend so I'll see if I can get Dave on the phone tomorrow and see what he says about it.

Pressure sensor and temp sensor are inside the trans mounted on the valve body, they will most likely come with a valve body if you buy one for your application. Just ask before you order and make sure it comes with the sensors, then order the VB for your truck, not for the trans.
