Did you crack any injector lines?
You need to back up , the mechanical lift pump in that truck is for the price & general use , the best / most reliable you can get .
Ticking can be a sign of an issue is the only way to find & fix a problem , if you want to do it right , for the least money / effort .
Then & now a fuel pressure test , 26 psi at idle , and 35 at wide open throttle , not more than a couple lbs lower than those numbers .
If pressure is low , slowly pinch the return hose , watch to see if pressure goes up , if it does then new OFV , if not , the pump may not be able to make pressure .

but why would this happen only after i added the electric pump? even if the electric pump isn't putting out enough pressure it would still be more than it had before and the truck ran fine before that.
I thing you missed the point , the old [ no fuel pressure test ] just ticking may have been making good pressure .
Then you put in an other pump [ stlll no pressure test ] , now you have a new problem , odds are , the change in performance is from the change you made with out testing before or after .
The ticking would have been a good reason to test the old pump , now you have a reason to test the new pump .
Testing saves more money than parts .
