97 sets a few days starts then dies? HELP

My bro has 97 runs like a kittin, has since new, has 70k on it now,if he lets it set a few days then goes to start it, it starts fine then it will die :'( (like you have it in 4th gear and let clutch out slowly till it quits) he then cranks on it for maybe 10-15 second gives starter a break then tries it again, when you think the starter is getting way to hot it starts.<br>the fuel cutoff lever is on when this happens,so what is it? he would like you diesel doctors to help?after it starts second time it runs almost as good as his bro's 24v we are thinking maybe a baby fuel leak somewhere that we cant see or smell,Thanks for the future comments.

I'm not a diesel doctor, but I think you're on the right track looking for a leak. Sounds like air in the system to me.

Check/replace the fuel return line that runs behind the fuel filter back down the firewall. Seems to get hot and deterirate over time. Can be the cause of his &quot;loss of prime&quot; condition.
