97 12valve jerks taking off

Ive been noticing alot lately that my truck jerks when taking off from a stop. I had my g/n on it this weekend and couldnt hardly back up with it because of it jerking/bouncing so bad. I think i need new U-joints but i wanted to post on here and see what ya'll thought about it.
Thanks

How many miles on the clutch? I am assmuing it is a 5 speed since your sig is bare. A pressure plate and a flywheel can get burn spots or what some mechanics call a hot spot. Comes from the clutch disc slipping in between clutch and pressure plate during partial engagment like moving through slow traffic getting started with a heavy load and backing up to a trailer, Pretty common on trucks that pull and have a great deal of low end torque seems to come at some time during their lives. Some live along time with it. SOme good pulling usually helps mine stop doing it for awhile. City driving makes it come back faster than anything else.

I just put a new 13" flywheel and clutch 450hp 950tq about 2,000 miles ago. And yes it is a 5spd sorry bout that. All i have done to the truck right now is wastegate blocked, open 8" K&N filter, and the torque plate is removed, its only around 350 hp, and maybe 650 or so torque.

U might wanna check

the u joints, or the throttle return springs on your injection pump. thats a major cause for trailer bucking if they arent all there, if its not ur u joints.. Truck does that only loaded? or empty as well... If ur clutch is ceramic, let it better break in and things will get better. Ive got 25K on my valair inc, and its been a heck of a clutch.. pulls trailers like a dream...

The new flywheel may not have been perfectly flat after shipping. I have found flywheels with a couple thou runout therefore causing hop or chatter (jerkyness).
Anytime we do clutches at the shop now I always send the new flywheel out that way I know it's a perfectly flat no runout. Always had better results since I've been douing that.

What kind of clutch is it? There are some out there that are very jerky (technical term) while backing up and starting out.

My guess is the clutch, if it is like mine, a Con OFE, to make it aggresive and hold the hp, the material in the clutch is pretty grabby. I called Southbend about it when my clutch was new and they told me to give it more throttle as you let it out. When new, reverse was really grabby, far worse than first. It is getting better, but it is taking a long time. Overall, I like it and am glad I put it in. Did your new clutch come with a flywheel?
