96 12v conversion into 86 F-350
96 12v conversion into 86 F-350
I have found a 1996 180 hp 12v engine that has all the adapters for installing it into my 1986 F-350 4x4 dually. Supposedly the engine came out of a rig that had about 95k, that had been wrecked. The FI shop it sits in has put a plate and bigger injectors in it.
What should I be aware of looking at this engine. Before I install it should I tear it down? I have talked to Fordcummins and he said just install it. There must be some gaskets that would be advisable to replace while its easy.
If anyone is interested, the price I will pay is $3500. Any comments would be appreciated.

That is a pretty low price for such a low mileage motor.
Not much to go bad on them, just kill the KDP while it is out of the vehicle. You could lash the valves if you wanted to, no huge thing there either. Every now and then there is a case of leaking front or rear main seals, so you can replace those. There is nothing else I can think of to replace.
