Question 96 12v in a 69 charger help!

i recently crashed my 96 12v 3500 and totaled it, but made money on the accident, and still bought the truck back from the insurance company. before i went off to NADC, i had purchased a 1969 dodge charger and was in the process of restoring it. recently i found a video on youtube of a 24v in a 70 monte carlo and it inspired me to put my 12v into my charger to make one unique ride! i have yet to separate the 12v and the truck, so the project is far from over and i have some questions about the swap i thought you guys could help me with, first off, what does the 12v and auto weigh, secondly, is there a tachometer that could operate off of the stock sensor in an older vehicle, and lastly, what kind of upgrades do i need to do to the tranny, i have ground the fuel plate to a 0 and slid forward, and turned the afc wheel and the tranny was beginning to slip in the truck before the accident. any help you guys could enlighten me with would be greatly appreciated.

I just shipped a 96 6BT with turbo, intake, starter. No radiator, intercooler or trans from MS to TN. ABF weighed the motor in Nashville and it came out to 1035lbs on a pallet.

Where are you going to find Torsion bars to support that thing?

Man, what I wouldn't give to be able to afford a 69 Charger around here, much less stick a 12V in it..

Depending how comfortable u are with the trans condition, u could put a single disc TC and a upgraded Valve body and that should perform alot better, especially since it's gonna be in alot lighter car so the trans won't be working near as hard.

I could lift the auto and move it around, so it can't be THAT heavy. No more than if u had a fat passenger, lol. But the cummins won't even notice it's there. Man I can't imagine how a 12v would feel in a light car. Good luck and post vids when ur done.

By the way, do u have 3.5 gears from ur truck? lol hijack sorry.

Keith, I see no reason that won't work then, it would be a really cool ride!

Just for grins, are Chargers that are reasonably decent but not running cheaper there? Man, a rotted 69 Charger without engine and trans will bring over 5K around here! I passed on a 68 without engine and trans and literally the whole bottom of the car rotted away ( had been setting in mud for 10 plus years ) for 3500 bucks and it was gone the next day.......

unfortunately not, i stumbled across this steal of a deal towards the beach in NC, the car was complete all except a carb and air cleaner, and install the driveshaft that was laying in the trunk, and i only paid $1800 for the car, of course this was before the latest dukes of hazzard movie craze, and i actually had warner brothers offer me $6000 for the car, but i had wanted one since i was 12 and i knew the car would be worth a whole lot more after the movie, kind of like the mustang craze after eleanor from gone in 60 seconds, i just lucked up and found a deal, wish i could find a deal on a new truck!! but my inspiration for the whole ordeal is a video i found on youtube, search for "1970 DMC diesel monte carlo" and tell me why if they can put an electronic 24v in a monte carlo, why cant i put a mechanical 12v in a charger?!

I know you already have the 6BT, but you may wish to investigate stuffing a 4BT in there instead, much less weight, and it still would have plenty to drag you around....

no way! lol, stick with the 6bt, it's gonna be amazing to drive with all that torque. Just beef up with car enough, and it'll still be WAY lighter than a truck so it'll be fast, if u can get traction.

sorry pat gotta go with the 6bt, i know a 4b would "drag" me around, but i want to "fly" around, and i have already found the k member and spring perch supports to beef up the front frame, now i have to find some subframe connectors and a rear end to handle all that power, cause it wont be stock when it goes into the charger for the last time! plus if they can put a 24v in a monte carlo, and in the latest diesel power they put a dirtymax (6.6) in a buick gran national clone, so i know it can be done, the question is how? like box said, all i have to worry about is traction, i need some way to transfer the weight of the 12v to the rear on launch, and i think a 4 link could be adjusted to do just that.

The monte is a full frame car . I would be putting a full frame in it if I were you or you will twist that car and tear all the unabody welds loose over time.A roll cage would help also to tie every thing together.
