95 starter contacts
95 starter contacts
My 95 has started to just click lightly when I turn the key. Im assuming it the starter contacts starting to fail. Where can I get the good ones? what should a new starter typically cost. and should one come from Cummins only as opposed to cheapo rebuilds.
Thanks .
Thanks .
Also check around locally. If you can find a company that rebuilds starters and alternators, you could probably pick em up from them for around 5 bucks. They probably have the replacement plunger as well.
Easy install, but take the time to disassemble the starter, clean the armature and field, clean and lube the gears (with a little synthetic grease), and your starter will act like new again.
Heres a good how to link for starter rebuild:

OMG no!!!
dont buy a new starter or a rebuilt one or whatever!!! it is JUST the contacts and the plunger!!! i replaced mine a month ago and went to a starter fixer place up my street and got em 10$ a piece and 20$ for the plunger so paid 40$ cash!! canadian!!!....as u take the starter apart you'll see that one of your contacts is burned much more than the other ..this will cause the pluger to warp slightly and wear out in one spot creating an uneven surface so whats why u need a plunger too...the starter motor itself is built tougher than a lil honda 4 cylinder!! you'll see what i mean when u get it off ..
contacts and pluger only!! get em at ur local starter specialists...piece of cake
ps...new starter is said to be 500-600$

Ill wind a rope around the crank pulley before I replace the starter. Im gonna order the contacts and go that route. BTY, Larry B has new starters for $369? or so. Geez, what happened to the $59.95 specials?
