47re upgrades

I am about to put a valve body in my 1996 12 valves 47re tranny. Im finding the tranny is getting a tad soft lately. Whats the best formula that I need to build this tranny to be strong for years to come and hold a little power while doing it. One other thing I hate is how powerless the truck feels until it drops into OD and then the tourque comes on strong, but tranny likes to drop into OD way to early and tries to lug its way out from around 1300 RPMS. Would like it to drop at around 1600 if its possible. I find when TC is locked it has oodles of power but while unlocked it feels really sluggish.

hi ,
a good rebuild with a TFOD-DIESEL shift kit will give great durability .
add a low stall converter to reduce the slip when not in lock up,
fill with +4 fluid !
321,000 on mine !

Im getting a valve body ordered for it, don't know if I really want to invest in a TC for this truck that badly, starts getting pricey. Not looking to add a whole bunch more power to this rig, just want dependability and better shifting. Would also like to get the truck to quit lugging its way through the RPMS so hard when it shifts into OD. Drops into OD waayy too soon for my liking.

should hit od at 40 and lock up at 45 unless your past half throttle, then both shifts are delayed by another 5mph
I found OD locked at 55mph pulling is perfect! Once Speed dropps to 48 mph I disable OD as the turbo starts to stall out when floored at such a low rpm

The power lost in heat because of the loose converter is only fixed by a tighter converter.

These trans need two things at a minimum.
A tighter converter, and either a shift kit or a VB.
If you add a lot of power then you need a rebuild to get good clutches and correct clearances.
BTW, a lower srall converter 9tighter0 will make it feel like a different truck.
You do not need a multi disc converter if the VB is set up right.

So if I was to go TC route on a budget, what TC would you suggest buying. I rarely pull anything heavy. Its my gas/oil well operating truck, has about 1000-1500LBS of tools in it give or take on a daily basis and thats about it.

Do you have any added power to your truck? I put a #10 plate in my truck and it woke it up pretty nicely

Just had the 47re done in my 98. Low stall and modified VB. With the POTS the truck is so different. I haven't hauled the 14K lb 5er yet, but plan to take a 300 trip this week.
Once the TC locks the truck almost flies from 45-80 mph.
