Keep in mind those transmissions were made between 1996 and 2002 for the Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks so any dates decyphered will have to fall between those years.....

{From a site on the net:}
Go under the vehicle to locate the transmission identification numbers, stamped on the driver's side of the transmission case just above the oil pan gasket. The 17-digit identification code includes a nine-digit part number, a four-digit build date and a four-digit serial number. The four-digit serial number is the transmission code: 47RE.

Four digit
10,000 Day calendar
2995 = Oct 9, 1969
Hemi engines, manual and automatic transmissions

{Another example from a Dodge talk message board site:}

The trans ID is: PK52119517AA-0448-6549
{The member responded:}
From the FSM:
Part Number:PK52119517AA-
Build Date:0448-
Serial Number:6549
I would guess 44th day of 1998
===========================================
Of course I think that would be wrong because the 6549 he refers to would fall around the date of 1979-1980 which is far from the 1998 year date he answers.
===========================================
Early 10,000 day calander would be as follows:

July 29,1961 was when the 10,000 day calendar began. It started at ooo1.

To use the chart below, find the DATE CODE on the part in question; find where the CODE falls on the chart. Subtract the CODE on your part from the closest number that is less than your CODE and add this number to the closest lower number on the chart.

Below is a chart of 10,000 day calender Chart

1-1-1984 8193 Leap Year, 29 days in Feb

1-1-1985 8558

1-1-1987 9288
1-1-1988 9654 Leap Year, 29 days in Feb

12-13-1988 9999 End

The biggest problem I see with this is that the calander runs out or stops in 1988.
I don't quite know how they handle the late model date codes because there's very little info out there. Perhaps another member knows if Chrsyler changed to a Julian date method on late model stuff or not.
Wonder if they started it over again in 01-01-1989? but that would open a can of worms where an early number could be the same as a late number eventually. LOL
Aren't date codes fun!?

2710 is the date code

I would almost say the 271st day of 2000, but a parts guy needs to verify.

I was told that it is the original trans from a 1998 2500 that I have acquired but I want to be sure.

Well, then you seem to know that Chrysler has abandonded the use of the 10,000 day calander then? That must be why no-one can find an extension to the original 'old' 10,000 day one.
What you have suggested is the Juliand Date method which they haven't used in the past for their transmissions.

47RE date code

the transmission was built 9/22/00 (you got it patdaly) it was not the original trans behind my 98 12 valve. I had it rebuilt and hope to have no issues even though it must have lived behind a 24 valve originally.

Thanks, I just am one who happened to read the FSM and remember odd facts though.

If your trans guy did it right, you won't have any issues, 98 to 2000 should be the same except perhaps the resistance on the trans temp sender? Anyway, if it was working right before, you will be just fine,
