241 or 241HD...
241 or 241HD...
i know the basic differences between the two; the HD has a PTO, and a one piece tail shaft, extra bearing cause of the PTO...etc..
wondering if they are direct swaps for one another....driveshafts, input shafts, etc..i don't know if the shafts are different lengths...i know the standard 241 has a LONG tail shaft, where i don't think the HS does..
truck is a 96 12V with a NV4500..
thanks guys..

I recently swapped out my 1996 47RE automatic w/241 DHD T/case for a 98 NV4500 w/241 DLD T/case. The inputs are not interchangeable, the DLD and DHD are different lengths. The tailshafts are interchangeable between the two. I had to swap them out in order to keep my speed sensor. Very easy swap. I had to use the front drive shaft from the 98 for proper length. Since my donor truck was a regular cab and mine is an extended cab, I had to rework my rear shaft. I do believe that if both trucks were extended cabs, the rear shaft from the donor truck would have been the one to use due to length.
I have it on very good authority that a DLD from a CTD is also a heavy duty version of the 241.

Good to go...
i answered my own question, by taking a small risk (i'm very busy, and the truck was 50 min away...so time IS money...but it's all set now...) I was surprised EVERYTHING was the same...
unless:
there were TWO versions on the 241HD, one WITH a PTO and one WITHOUT, (was looking at the Haynes manual, and it mentions something...or;
when one case was rebuilt they used the HD tail shaft and sections, and NOT the PTO planetary housing
although one case did read 241DHD, and the other read 241DLD...
but the driveshafts were the same length, and the slip-yoke was the same...(i measured before it all came out
)
thanks guys!!!

speedo gear meaning speedo cable/speed sensor?
do all 241HD's have a PTO output?
thanks again!
