injection pump leaking oil

I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to make it quit. there is a chrome lugnut looking thing on the drivers side of the pump. it is a 97 model 12v p 7100. it seems to have a seal behind it but i cannot really tell. i tried tightening it but it seems to just freewheel. there is a bolt on top and bottom of the one that is leaking. had to fix the kdp because it cracked my case and thought i had fixed the oil leaking until this. if anyone knows what it is and what i can do to fix it i would really appriciate it.

Is this a bosch inline injector pump..?...the item you refer too......is it close to the throttle lever...if so.....I think this is the timing port..( is on our MAN bosch pumps)...the 'lugnut' you are trying to tighten..is it a 24mm spanner...the 2 bolts above & below 13m size..?...

If this is the case...looks like the plug and/or housing threads have stripped..quite common here in UK...over zealous with the ring spanner....apart from renewing the housing and nut....quick fix would be to make a blanking plate...not sure of cost..here in UK...last one we used was about £50...$90 approx..

hope this helps a bit.....

yes, the timing pin housing is what is leaking. is the nut supposed to tighten or is it supposed to be loose. i did not keep tightening it because i didn't know what it was. does it have a gasket behind it? if it won't hurt i will ry to tighten it again.

could somebody tell me what the plug is for. took the nut off to try and seal it and the white plug fell out. oil went everywhere. inserted plug back in and it went in smooth. retightend nut and truck seems to run fine. no clack or clatter. i just don't no what it is for. had a 24v before and it had alot less miles so i didn't have any problems. thanks for the help.

It indexes and locks the pump cam. The taper shaft and drive gear doesn't use a key index so the pump must start at a known position when assembling the engine or installing a rebuilt pump.

The piece that fell out should have a fork on one end.

how exactly would i make a blanking plate or is there any way to buy one. dodge said i would have to buy a new injection pump. they don't sell any type of housing for the plug.

Search for a local Bosch diesel injection service shop and give them a call.
