Remove the throttle linkage from the pump, tag will be under there. 0 402 736 887 or 0 402 736 913 is what you are looking for.

I read that is where the tag is SUPPOSED to be. I examined the area very closely with a flashlight and from what I can tell, there is no tag there at all.
Is it possible that the tag cannot be seen unless the linkage plate is removed?
There is a slight gap where you can look down and see if there is even a tag there.
I could be wrong...

If it is the original motor and pump, then it is a 215 HP motor, as that is what the '97s came with if they where 5 speed like your truck.

I agree with you.... IF IT IS THE ORIGINAL MOTOR.
The data plate is missing from the timing cover. This is why I am trying to ID the pump.
Possible the dowel pin may have killed the timing cover and the cover was replaced. This is my theory

so...it looks to me like I'm just going to have to take the linkage plate off to find out. I can't even see the plate.
we will find out soon.

Yes, you have to remove the linkage plate from the pump. Three bolts, and it will be clearly visible if its not dirty. A flashlight will be your friend.

fore shore. I will remove this linkage and look. Then.. I need to adjust the valves. engine seems to have a little bit of a roll at idle. lash adjustments are often overlooked or plain neglected. It is sooooo easy to do too!
CU later. will post examination results tomorrow
