12v fuel filter warning
first off don't dump on me for buying an aftermarket fuel filter, last week i installed an aftermarket fuel filter from "Part source"in halifax n.s. they supply Canadian tire with parts.on my way home from our yearly camp trip i noticed the fuel gauge was dropping like a V10.i stopped at a fueling station and the entire side and underside of my truck was covered in diesel, and all under the hood was wet with diesel...the buttom of the filter where the seperator threads in was cracked and spraying fuel everywhere.EXTREME FIRE HAZARD.not to mention an enviromental issue.GKI is the brand name of the filter it was blue in color and "Made in china"on the side.check and make sure you don't have one of these on your truck.thanks JJ

yep understood, but the mopar/cummins filter was weeping out of the seam at the top,it was made in korea, and try to find a genuine part after 5pm on a weekday when most of us work to pay for name brand equipment,my service is due early december at the dealer,i thought the filter might last more than a week before the bottom seperated from the rest of the body leaving a wonderous stream of $1.36/liter gold blowing out on the road.this was just a heads up for us all.

yep i knew that one,but the boss on the bottom that holds the w.i.f sensor started falling off it split about 2/3 of the way around it gave a wonderous fountain of fuel spraying straight down over the starter and front diff housing...nice!

Not to nitpick, but just so you know in case you ever need to replace it and need to know the correct terminology - the water-separating action occurs in the filter itself. What you are referring to is the drain and water senor.

well the saga continues....yesterday on the way home the temp fuel filter (that the shop gave me to put on the truck to get me through till the "make a ruleing"on what happened to the filter that broke)did the same thing as the last one the bottom cracked.giving a nice arterial spray of diesel on the road...holy crap!so i went to the shop fully intending to place the broken filter up the rear end of the first parts clerk that looked at me the wrong way!they were great, another filter and sending off filter #2 for assessment....nice...so this morn at 8am i dropped the truck off at the local cummins dealer in dartmouth, they installed a fleetguard.they seemed very good to deal with,so i'm hoping my issues are done...has anyone heared of this or has had it happen to them???cheers JJ
