Living in the Northern Pennsyltuckey Rust Belt I thought you'd embrace the onboard rust prevention system.

Ha. It actually the southern Pennsyltucky rust belt, and I try not to drive cars and trucks I make nice in the months that Penn DOT feels the need to coat the road with corrosion inducing garbage.

Cam does not have to be removed to change case. Use the proper puller and remove the gear. Heat in oven (do not use a torch or flame) to 350 degrees and it will slip back on. Use good welder gloves for this.

My local Cummins shop had all the gaskets, dowel pin, and a used gear cover. So I spent a few hours swapping parts last night. I rolled the engine on its side to not have to mess with the tappets. A few hours of my time now is worth peace of mind down the road.

Good to see the invested time. Patching can work for a longtime, but with engine out.. good to see it right. Replace the gear too!!

Ideally, 275 in the oven is plenty. You can set it in a cast iron pan.
