rebuilding camper questions?
#16
*I* didn't build alot of anything in there, I pretty much just helped Dad do whatever he wanted to do. But yeah, Dad built the cabinets and we customized them to fit in. They are all solid oak, Mom stained them with some white stain stuff which is why they look pained from far away. Came out nice.

Cool, thanks for the info. I think I am also gonna build my own cabinets for the camper. Thanks for all the replies. I will hopefully pick up the camper this weekend and post up some pics if all goes well. Thanks again and nice work on your rv's

I found a great article on RV.net about customizing a truck camper to make it more user friendly. Lots of great ideas & suggestions to enhance the utility in a limited space.
I'll see if I can find the article and post the link.
edit
I didn't find the article in RV.nrt, but I did bookmark his personal webpage

It really was'nt that bad of a job and I have a freind that did a more extensive repair and he was able to help me along a little bit. Rv.net was also pretty helpful. They have a truck camper forum and a TON of excellent info. Pretty much like we have here. A bunch of great guys that offer up good quality info.
I have wanted a truck camper for years, but I had a hard time justifying it when I owned a 34' travel trailer. This truck camper was given to me for $500 and as far as I can tell I have replaced all the rotted wood and am ready to take it on the road. I have spent about $200 above what I paid for it. I did have alot of the material here in my shop. To buy it ready to go down the road I would have to pay nearly $5000... So I am happy with what I have done for the $....

I know there are a ton of them going through the Texas Salvage auctions from the Hurricane... I have a friend that just bought 2 that only needed cleaning... >> I bought a 02 19' Wilderness from him last Jan. that only needed a piece of trim and a small piece of siding straightened... For only $2K... I invested a couple of hours cleaning it has served us very well!
There are a lot of great deals for those that are not afraid to get their hands dirty!

I had found water leaking from behind my fridge in the LQ of my horse trailer (an FRP '90 model) and thought I had better trade into a newer one. When I priced used trailers (starting around 40k and going up fast). I decided to rip and tear into this one. I have uploaded just 5 of close to 100 photos I took during this remodleing project and my wife and I are very satisfied with the results. Total cost of materials was close to 10k pretty fair considering all that was done.
I used spray foam insulation and a second layer of reflectix (bubble wrap covered in tin foil)then covered the walls with 1/4" luan plywood and had my wife wallpaper that, completely rewired the 12v and 110v wiring with an actual 30 amp service, added a forced air furnace, a regular gray and black water system with tank monitors, built my own cabinets and cupboards and saved LOTS of MONEY!!! It was actually fun too, no I am not a carpenter I guess you'd have to call me a handy man after this project though.
I did this remodle in the winter time and the trailer was parked outside (the insulation and furnace installation was finished before the cold weather) and I made a lot of trips back and forth between the shop and the trailer because nothing is square in a horse trailer! LOL!
If I didn't buy it at Home Depot, it was Menard's, or Fleet Farm, the RV specific stuff came from www.PPLmotorhomes.com I highly recommend them!
I'd say go for it and make sure you take lots of pics too!

Well? What happened? Did you get your camper?
I had to move mine and had a moment to take a couple of pics... It is snowy and dirty from sitting. I am almost finished with my repairs. As soon as it warms up a little I plan to finish it and get to using it. I can't wait.

Looks good Outdoorsman. I hope you closed the windows before traveling. Wind WILL make them flop around and break off. Had it happen on two 5ers windows that vibrated open while on the road.
