Mine has the chip built right into the key. I know that if there is a problem with that chip than the truck will not start......

Yep, 2006 and up all have it. It's called the sentry key. By the way - you can screw up the chip in the key if you get around/in a strong magnetic field. I have a friend who works with large motors, had his key in his pocket, it de-programmed the chip - or something to that effect. He coul not start his truck AND had to go to a dealership to get his key straightened out. I don't know if he ended up with a new key or if they fixed his.

Yup... it also sucks when the battery dies in the key. I was up in the adirondack mountains when my battery died. I unlocked the truck with the key, but when I opened the door, the alarm went off. Even after the alarm went off, I could start the truck, but it would stop running in about 10 seconds and would not rev. That was fun.

Caught a ride into town and luckily found a store that had watch batteries. Replaced the battery and was on my way. Talk about a crap design!

You've got a problem with your drivers door latch! When you unlock the door with the key it's suppose to deactivate the alarm. The alarm module gets a signal from the remote or the door latch when its unlocked. I've been working with this technology for a few years with these VW.

he probably did not lock/unlock a couple times. my experience with this system is you have to lock/unlock a couple times to manually shot off the system.
