reoiling AFE Filter??
How much is enough when reoiling my AFE PG7 Drop in air filter?
I'm afraid of dusting my motor. I've actually oiled it lightly 3 different times since I cleaned it. It never really came all the way clean when I soaked it in the AFE degreaser for over 30 min. My filter minder has never moved. So I don't trust it, and now I'm wondering if I've over oiled it.
If I need to start over, can I soak it in 409 degreaser or something like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cleaned my old AFE a couple times....
Used AFE cleaner for 30 minutes...soaked twice in Simple green and water...and rinsed twice. It was almost perfect. I only oiled enough to get a slight yellow color to soak through to the inside. It takes it a day to soak all the way through...so don't rush it. It worked fine. I do look forward to next cleaning of my Ram Air III with Uni filter though...it will be much easier than the above process!

Cq, tell me more please. what takes a day to soak the oil or the degreaser?
I am seriously thinking of the Ram Air III myself. It is apparently easier to maintain?

I tried really hard to get my AFE "completely" clean when I used it in the past. The cotton gauze is white and retains some discoloration, but I tried to get it as clean as possible...which took the above stated process to almost do it. Oiled foam like the Scotty's new Ram Air III is much easier to clean. The foam is synthetic and does not stain like the gauze in a AFE. The process takes half the time...also because the foam will dry quicker...
I also feel it is easier to apply the right amount of oil to foam. A lifetime of dirt biking may have biased my opinion some, but I have had a perfect track record filtering dirt with oiled foam. I am a big fan of Scotty's new product. Many other are too!

thanks A LOT. I think my mileage has gone down a little do to overoiling. But my filter minder has never moved!! I even removed it and sucked on it to make sure it does move.

The biggest improvement from intakes is in the EGT department...mileage never changes that much IMHO. Others have claimed more of an improvement than I have seen...but I drive way to fast and never see the miracle mileage that many claim with this truck.
Except the 1000 mile trip I had to finish with a odd sized tire on...drove never faster than 75 and closer to 70 most of the way. 18+ mpg...the best by a mile for me!

Yeah my overhead reads similar to your numbers, but my hand calculated has never been better than 16.72mpg 50/50 city/hwy at 75-80mph.
mileage could just be in my head and my inexperience...still would like an easier method....RAM AIR III, Christmas is coming!!!!

I used to use K&N cleaner and it cleaned the AFE really well. Just sprayed a coat of K&N oil on it and let it dry then checked for light spots and resprayed them. My filter minder was garbage from the day I got my truck.

Beat me to it ............. K&N filter cleaner rocks!
I bought my AFE with a couple recharge kits. The first time I tried to use the AFE cleaner I knew I was in trouble!
I searched around in the garage and found some left over K&N cleaner from my racing days and it worked like a charm!!

I am worried about properly cleaning and oiling my Air Raid. Probably like a lot of you guys, I will obsess over if I did it right or not and be nervous and checking it...its like obsessive compulsive disorder. I have had my Air Raid in for roughly 7K, and haven't touched it yet. Filter minder is still not budging at all, so I am leaving it until the day I do see it suck in a tad, because it is probably doing a better job of filtering with the dirt on it.
Does anyone else feel that these airboxes are the most worthless, hard to open and shut, insecure deals ever put on a vehicle? Those stupid tabs can be a real bear to get stuffed back in there, meanwhile I can never stop worrying that it isn't seated right on the filter, or there might be a gap, etc. Absolutely junk.
Once I near the end of warranty it's BHAF time! Had one on my PSD and loved it, except for the terrible turbo stall/surge noises it allowed into the cab (air filter right in front of steering wheel). It was particularly annoying under acceleration on one of the hotter chip settings.

A BHAF won't void your warranty. That's why I have one now.
I had no problems with my AFE drop-in but I didn't feel like swapping it out everytime I went to the dealership.
