Questions on a 95

My Dad is looking to buy a 95 2500 reg cab 4x4 CTD no mods. 5spd, ac, pdl, pw, cc, srw, and never had a 5th wheel in it. Its got 104k, new tires, runs and drives great but the paint has a few flake problems the output shaft on the transfer case is leaking, the headliner is saging, and it needs new shocks. The dealer will only go down to $11,500. He's not going to tow too much with it he just wants a good all around truck that will last him for a few years. I want to know if this price sounds good or not and what I sould look for in the direction of red flags as I'm going to look at it on friday.

Thanks for the help,

Paws

To me $11,500 sounds a bit high. I would think that it should go for under $10,000. Try checking places like www.kbb.com or www.nada.com and see what used trucks like that go for in your area. If you print them off you MAY have a slight more leverage to use against the price.

I guess it depends on its condition overall.
I paid a lot more for my 95 a year ago. It was indeed over priced, but the truck was in excellent condition with just a few little mechanical issues that were not of a critical nature.

Seems high for around here in Oklahoma, I just picked up this 94 2 wheel reg cab 90k miles, under 7k. I agree with Mntom, check nada, kelleybluebook,if it has been cared for it will sure last him for a good while. Just check it over good and get them down to a fair price. Goodluck, Rick. It is the time of the year they are wanting to get thier inventory down by the 1st. So work on them.

Personally, I would leave it for the next guy at that price. I just paid $10k for a 94 3500 4X4 in Arkansas and it has probably almost $7k in aftermarket add ons. It dynoed at 361 and 746 before we even touched it.

See if this link will work and check it out. If not, the pics are under MOPAR440's pics and hobbies on page 54. THere are better deals out there if you can wait.

Personally I'd consider a truck whose engine hasn't been modified worth more, you can be somewhat assured it hasn't been abused. In fact I wouldn't even consider a modified one, do that yourself according to your own needs.
As for the peeling paint, you can get that fixed for free even if you aren't the original owner by following instructions here-

Cool

Sounds high too me. Last November I paid $16,500 for mine outright. Aftermarket rims/Good paint/Good interior/ etc.. 94,000 mi. at the time. Kelly and NADA are pretty good places to check book price. Also go to traderonline.com and look at similar trucks and see what they are selling for. At least it will give you a good comparison.

I thought of this too when I was looking at the one for my son. Several reasons I jumped on it anyway were that (1) he was the original owner, (2) all mods to the truck had been done by reputable service centers (not that there's anything wrong at all with doing the work yourself), (2) an older retired fellow owned it (not that there's anything wrong at all with being a little older and wiser), and (4) the truck was very solid when I drove it. The door hinges weren't even worn out.

When it comes down to whether the price is right (no afflilation with Bob Barker here), remember that something is only worth what the buyer will pay.

Thanks for all the info. I'll check KBB and see what this truck is really worth around here and then take that into the dealer.

I've been driving one of these since they came out in 89 and even had two at one time. It is incredible how they hold their value. The credit union at work allowed my son $9050 for that 94 with over 217000 miles on it. You have to make the final call obviuosly.
Good luck.

KBB said that this truck is worth $12,125. So I think if I could get it around 10-10,500 that would be a good deal.
