Possibly Draging Brakes
When I hit the brakes on my truck, the brake lights stay one for about 3-5 seconds after I release the brake pedal. I am wondering if this is causing my brakes to continue "braking" when I let of the brakes. Anyone ever seen anything like this or know how to fix it?
Thanks
Jeff

You might have a caliper hanging up or a bad brake line, if in fact, it is hanging up. It may just be the brake switch. Do you have an IR gun? Checks temp at each wheel. It will show a hanging brake right away.

Run the truck up to speed a couple of times and brake to a stop. A hot wheel indicates a problem. This also works at finding a bad bearing. Aim the heat gun at the center of wheel, not the tire.

Sounds to me like your brake light switch may be out of adjustment. I don't think the brake pressure has anything to do with the electrics that trigger the brake lights if you are talking about the taillights and not the brake indicator light on the dash.

The only thing that activates the brake lights is the brake light switch down at the brake peddle. New ones has the switch plunger fully seated and after installation, you push a button to make the switch pop out to touch the peddle arm (self adjusting). Make sure you don't have the peddle pushed in at all when you set the switch or it will be out of adjustment.
