Let's talk about engine coolant...

What brand/type of engine coolant do you guys use? What do you recommend? Will Supertech "universal" greenish/orange coolant work well in these engines?

Since there were only two plants in the US producing antifreeze until one burned down I highly doubt there is any differences between brands except the label on the jug.

I agree, but i would use the same color antifreeze unless you change out everything and flush out the system.

Thanks Infidel.

Yeah, that's what I always thought. See the Supertech says it is compatible with ALL other types of antifreeze, regardless of color. But I'm not sure if it's still a good idea to stick to the same color or not. Also, since this is a diesel engine, if there was a "more suitable" coolant. Kinda like how we use Rotella/Delo 15w-40 instead of any 10w-30 engine oil.

You should only use a high quality HEAVY DUTY anti freeze for diesel engines. If it doesn't say for diesel engines on the label, DO NOT use it in a diesel engine. Diesel engine anti freeze or coolant has special additives ( sometimes called DCA) that prevent erosion of the outside of the cylinder walls. It is also important to change your coolant periodically because these additives wear out. I just changed my coolant and I used John Deere pre mix anti freeze/coolant. It is pre mixed with ph balanced water. John Deere recommends that this coolant can be used for 5 years or 5000 hours.
