well since were talking getrag oils; I was down disagreeing with the guy at the local diesel performance place about stuff and this came up.

I run Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, he said thats to thin and gave me a paper on Cen-Pe-Co Hy-Torque gear lube, I guess its supose to be better than a 75W-90 synthetic gear lube..... or so the paper said. He said it has a climbing additive to make it ride the gears and keep everything protected better.

So thats what he recomends and said that the sled pullers were using it too. I still have my synthetic, but what do you guys think about this stuff?

anyone useing it?

Is the Cen Pe Co Hy torque gearlube (what a mouthful- makes it easy to spread the word) a 5/30 weight oil or heavier? It was unclear.

Is anyone using Lucas oil or other additives that cling to the parts?

it doesnt actually say what the weight is just that is exceeds GL-5 specs and that its for extreeme conditions. I think it is a little heavier though.

Royal Purple is the best there is. Why do you think all our drilling rigs use only that. Less wear=less down time and at $140k day rate you need as little down time as possible.

This is why you should go the RP route. The film strength is tremendous so it will stay on the gears. No need for thicker oil or additives.
