electric fan install.....

love it! i know that a lot of people tow mega pounds, so this is not for everyone. I installed an elec. fan on an original dz302 z28 (I know its a gm, sorry), over twenty years ago. it was a great addition at the time, and thought that it would be interesting to try it on my truck. from flexalite, it runs 5500 cfm. the instructions said install time would be 4 hrs. when i started to take off all the original fan and shroud, etc. i thought i was going to be done in two hours. nope took all of 4 hrs. thanks to the help of my friend (ryan), an electrical wiring 'fool', he helped me out. i will install an in-cab switch for times when i do tow, etc. only things i wasn't happy about was the thremostat; a torpedo temp sensor pushed through radiator. the wires were thin guage and were very short, so connection to module has to be done right the first time! here are some pics.

How does it do while driving. Any noticable difference? I have been thinking about one of these for winter time use.

well,..........

first installed it two weeks ago. i went to cape cod and was stuck in traffic in 85 degree weather. no problems. stayed within the factory range. it does have a manual adjustment on the new shroud (aluminum piece from flexalite), it is a screw type that turns 3/4 turns in either way depending on what your looking for. i will be getting the in-cab switch soon. i really like it. it definetly has more power. it runs smoother, bigtime! it spools up faster at highway speeds, which is really nice. i love that when i trun the truck off it will go on after about twenty seconds and stay on for about the same (twenty seconds, or so). it also has a place to fasten all wire loom and it looks like you have more room for work. i have seen a gain in mpg by about 1 mile or so.........very happy. it says that you shouldn't pull more than about 11k trailer, etc. thats fine for me, because my max limits are maybe, 10k. runs awsome.

nice install- but i thought i saw a thread on here that the factory fan pulls somewhere in the 8,800 cfm at full lock. i know the factory fan pulls more than 5500 cfm! the size and shape of the factory shroud helps too.

check engine light???

What about the stock fan clutch wiring. I read the install directions on their website and they just unplug it. Did your check engine light come on???

No way, theres no room.

Great looking install, good thing you don't tow and live in Texas, I don't believe the 11000# limit wound apply to Texas summers.

hmmmm......

thanks, it was, as you know, when you install something, you look back and say, i should have done this or that differently. i am happy though. well, this set-up was from flexalite; it is a dual fan set-up (kinda hard to see from pics) and was specifically for the cr cummins.... to that i'm not sure about what cfm was stock, but i do know that the 'load' was reduced and therefore, hopefully this is the reason for less cfm needed? it also effects the towable load to a max of 10-11k. come on over and drive it! your more than welcome. i will check, thanks. fan (ac) clutch wiring is still used; hooking either pos. or neg. from main module....my friend ryan had hooked that up and used the positive wire, he is a wiring 'fool'! thank god! the check engine light did not come on. do not know if both the factory and elec. can be used. looks tight, but i know that if theres a will, theres a way. have more detailed pics i will post eventually. also have pics of airdog and fluidampr. will try to get my sig and etc., updated.
