Checking for boost leaks

I've done a search and dropped some hints, but I guess I need to start a thread,....so whats the pvc peice I need to pressurise my intake system? You just screw a threaded 4" pvc plug into the turbo. I guess you just drill a hole and stick an air chuck in there, but what do you use to seal it- rtv maybe?

I've never been mechanically inclined, but I'm learning so bear with me =P

I took the whole stock intake elbow into Lowes and found the correct fittings to fit it.
Then drilled and tapped the plug and put in an air fitting, guage and ball valve.

So what size were the correct fittings? The turbo hose is a 4 1/2 into 4" if I recall.

Drill and tap does sound better than my drill n fill idea

I made one out of a 4" rubber fernco [4" plastic to 4" plastic], schedule 40 threaded 4" cleanout cap. You just drill a hole in the cap & thread in a air hose nipple....no need to tap because the nipple makes its own threads. Set your air compressor regulator to 15psi & hook on the hose....it works great. I posted this on TDR about 2 years ago.

A 3in pvc cap thin wall will fit in you first boot off the turbo. Put a valve stem in it and hit the air to it and lessen you might spray some soap and water on the intercooler.

Well I used a 4" pvc cap and a valve stem on a 4" cac hose to pressurise the intake and couldn't find any major leaks. I sprayed a bunch soapy water and let the smoke of my cigarette trail past all the boots and found nothing =)

Pull the valve cover and have a look while its pressurized. Homestead on here had bad valve guides/seals, so the boost was leaking past there and going out the breather hose.
