California Smog Headache!
Took the truck in for its first smog the other day and the mechanic looks under the hood, then underneath and then tells me the cat is missing. I tell him it didnt come with one and he said his books and computer say otherwise? He said without the underhood emssions label that states so, I am not going to pass visual.
So I am hearing so many different things about this fiasco. The truck never had a cat and I never removed any emissions sticker. Anyone have any idea what can be done? I am planning to call Dodge and see what they say.
Im so bent on this... truck runs 99.9 biodiesel and is way more eco friendly than most vehicles on the road but I get the shaft.

This whole CA diesel smog problem is hugely determined by where you take your truck. I made sure that the smog guy I usually go to fully understands what will be required for a diesel to pass otherwise I would have found another smog shop who did. The main problem is that CA bureaucracy created this new law but failed to accurately inform shops as to what specific year and model trucks came with what emission equipment. And to add to the issue, most people think the smog shop is correct in what they say so they do whatever stupid thing the tech requires them to do so they pass. To all who are reading this thread, do yourself a favor and make sure you fully understand what emission equipment your truck came with from the factory and what the diesel smog law requires before you take your truck to any smog shop. Then ask the smog tech first if they know what you know and determine if you want to waste your time and money based on their response.

Just to add to what Katoom is saying. They made the laws retroactive. If they wanted to pass a law it should be geared towards the next purchase. Something like, "starting in 2011 if you buy this truck, it will require smog every two years". We purchased our trucks and did not have this requirements when purchased. This is what we get for not living in a free state.
Turbo Deeezle, I would ask to see a smog judge and plead your case with them.

Or.....to trump all..... Vote in legislation who aren't so hungry for additional bureaucratic revenue and wont continue to conger up new, bogus, and unfair laws that put us in these unfortunate positions.
