Welcome to DTR.

Regulations for smogging diesels will be changing in 07 to what I don't know but I'm sure it will be a PITA!!

Get ready to smog test your diesel now!!

What standards will CARB use? A vehicle is only required to meet the smog laws that were applicable for that model year, correct? If your particular diesel truck has no smog control device or just a cat: how can CARB enforce anything stricter? If the vehicle wasn’t required to have it, when built, could CARB force you to install smog related gear?

sid325,

They won't make us comply to stricter rules than were in force at the time of production. But they probably will make us have everything in place that was there originally like the cat and now (as of '07.5) the EGR system, etc.

They have never, to my knowledge, made older vehicles comply with later regulations.

$511? DARN! I think mine in July was less than $200, and that even included a fee for being a month late (truck in sig.)

they dont have a smog test out for diesels yet from what u know it is supposted to be a light beam that passes through the exhaust comming out of the tail pipe and so much light has to get through. the b.a.r (buera of automotive repair) hasnt send out anything to my dads shop for a diesel smog class yet it is just like the evap system check on the gas cars the cars have the parts their to do it but the state hasnt came up with a test that they like yet. and older diesel wont have to do a smog check but still require all smog part to be on the vehicle such as the cat etc. b/c it is illegal to modify a vehicle in that way. for example you cannot take the smog pump or egr off of a 75 yr modle vehicle even though it doesent have to be smoged and if a chp pulled you over and was hunting for something he could stick you with that and with a big fine. this stuff is all fresh in my head since i just got out of a smog class.

Ahhhh 500 bones. Welcome to the peoples republic of California. Yes we have a bear and a red star on the flag.... But I digress

3/4 ton and above have to be reigstered as commerical, hence the higher rate of yearly Auto Reg. My 05 Tahoe is only 250 to register. I love politics.... =P
