98 12V is pretty much the best - good luck finding one as they are somewhat rare.
EDIT: 98 12V SB's are the rare find.....and yeah the 96, 97, and 98 CTD are the same.

96, 97, 98 12 valves are all the same.
The sticks are 215 Hp.
The autos are 180Hp.
In mid 98 they went to the 24 valve.
Hence the 98.5 year model.
