2006 5.9L Injector Advice
I recently had a #1 injector failure on my 92k mile truck to which I put in a stock replacement but it got me thinking, if 1 goes, the rest can't be far behind so my question is with me being a Hot Rod kind of guy BUT living in Ca, I am being told that 50 hp injectors WILL pass the snap test that we do out here for smog. I also would like a bit more mpg as well (and who doesn't ) Who's injectors should I get? Exergy is the least expensive at $2300 for 50 hp injectors and DDP is the most expensive at $3200 but they also told me they can build me a custom set that will for sure pass smog. Or maybe just buy a new set of stockers, I don't know but I would like some extra oomph if I can get away with it. On the other hand, replacing the bad injector was easier than I thought, was sweatin over nothing really. 17.3 mpg with Smarty Sr on level 1 towing this combo from LA to Phoenix!

Winner winner chicken dinner!
The thing you want is new Bosch injectors not remans, and new can be hard to find. Exergy sells new Bosch injectors at a great price, the problem with their 50 or 100 hp nozzels is the are Motorsports nozzles and have a different spray angle than the 06 spray angle. The verdict is still out but a few people that know better than me do not like running them in I believe 04.5-07.5 trucks, while some others have.
I would go one of two ways.
1 get new stock injectors from Exergy.
2 get new stock injectors through Exergy, send them to Extruded Honed to be sized whatever you want. Then sent back to Exergy to be flow matched. This is a more costly option but insures you are going to get the power you want while keeping the injector flow rates as close to perfect as possible. The reason they go back to Exergy is they have if not the best close to the best bench test and matching capabilities in the industry.
Option 2 will drive the price up but it is hands down the best set of performance injectors you can get for a H.O. Year truck.

F1 still does good work as well with a very reasonable price too. Just installed a set back into an '07 that Don worked his magic on and the truck runs better now than it did new. Engine is very smooth and quiet. With 100hp nozzles and Smarty on lowest setting it only emits a slight haze with the rap of the throttle......now, getting on it going down the highway is a whole different story. The set that we sent in had 3 cracked nozzles and 2 cracked bodies and the guy still got out for under $2k.

I have DDP 50s that were put in last week. I payed $3,070. These are really great. They have woken the truck back up. My stockers went 221,000 miles. They were over due for replacement.
When you smog, Smarty setting to level 0 (half power). It suck driving the truck there and home, but will pass the snap no problem.

Don M at F1 took care of me. I had a lower than usual RP at idle. I pulled them and sent them in through Tim at TRE diesel. I had 3 that failed, and the other 3 were boarder line. I had all 6 rebuilt. I had them back in a week. Exergy or F1 for me and that is it.

Spooler, if you don't mind me asking....what was your RP at idle? My Isspro is showing 5k at idle ('03) model.....my buddies '07 has Auto Meter gauges and his RP is reading between 7-9k at idle with reworked (F1) injectors. Possible gauge calibration difference or just the nature of the beast? Oh yeah, my injectors have 302k miles on them....could that cause a difference in readings?
