I thought we were the only ones that couldn't get parts

I am kinda getting used to not being able to get parts for my heap but this was suprising. Today I was working on an 04 c6500 chevy at work that has a gas engine and side mounted fuel tanks. The driver side tank is rotted badly and leaking fuel. I called the chevy dealer and the tank has been discontinued. Even when they were available they were 3, 300 dollars. It is a steel 38 gallon tank nothing fancy at all. So I just wanted to say it is not just us that can't get parts.

They're probably discontinued because nobody would pay that kind of money for one.

Isn't there some plastic tank mfg that offer those size and model tanks for like $500 ea?
Seems like I had two saddle tanks under the bed right in front of the rear wheels on my 69 GMC truck. They were indestructable,...

Gm medium duty trucks are discontinued. They've become hard to get parts for. I run in to it daily at work.

There used to be a requirement that auto manufacturers have enough extra parts to satisfy all warranty requirements for a number of years, but in the rush to deregulate in the 80's this requirement was scrapped and it was left to the manufacturers good will. Problem is they don't have any. You want unobtanium, try finding parts for a 1966 Porsche 912 engine. The rest of the car, except the emblems, is pretty easy because it is the same as a 911. If it wasn't for Ebay, forget about it...Mark
