TX DTR #8 - September thread
Welp got word today that my beautiful white Dodge I sold was driven into a tree. More or less the pasg headlight is sitting at the bottom of the windsheld.....so I'm told. Also it's alleged that excessive amts of alcohol were involved......can't say I'm not happy.....was a cream puff of a truck.......
O well RIP......
O well RIP......
had a good weekend, 5 Inch exhaust installed, (what did i get myself into) rodeo went well. . . so pretty good here..
O but it's also sad for me today. Got the rest of my lawn equipment sold today. was really tough to part with that stuff. but on the bright side I can eat now. haha.

so the 03 04 trucks have 3 1/2inch down pipe to a four inch after the mufffler, I straight piped that on my truck within two hours of owning it.
So decided to make my truck obnoxious. so now its 4 inch down pipe, then goes to five inch under the pass front seat.
yes straight piped. I have not had a lot of time to test it this weekend, been busy. But I have heard more drone, my truck feels slower for some reason. maybe due to the extra noise?? . Also, it seems to be fairly similar to the old setup below 1700 rpms with my foot out of it, but its pretty loud when I mash the skinny pedal.
as far as " tone " it almost sounds "hollow" .
I really like laying into it, letting off and then hearing the turbo "whistle down" is the best way I can describe
. I would think that aftermarket turbo's affect tone as well ? but mine is still stock.
going to take some getting used to, I have some highway driving to do back to Texas this weekend and I will play with it at highway speeds.
I had to drive around a short bit running it just out of the turbo elbow, and that sounded GROSS.

Diesel-Dan hate to hear it.
Max, which rodeo? Portales? And also I'm not surprised that it seems slower, straight pipe is almost too much flow, from what I can tell it cuts efficiency until you have a lot of exhaust moving through it.

We are in the " grand canyon region" so this rodeo was here in Tucumcari.
I have heard that some back pressure was necessary but I did not think I would be able to feel it on my "hiney dyno" O well.
one real thought for this exhaust was to get the "loud" out of my system, when I get a job I plan to buy a 06- 07 Mega 4x4 and not want to make it obnoxious.
ps. COME ONE COWBOYS.

Do any of you on here know a good place to rent ATVs? Im planning a trip in a couple of weeks and need another one for the weekend. I have two and I think I know where I can borrow one. But need a 4th. Nothing fancy, just something dependable that will go. 250/350 CC range is fine. Any ideas?

Dang Dan! I sure hate to hear that. You had a lot of time in that sucker.

My experience is serious drone above 75 or 80 mph.... unless you have twin turbos.
Lots of members have mentioned less power with 5", but I find it very hard to swallow... since the turbo is controlling engine back pressure.
If you went from 4" straight to 5" straight, I don't think there will be a change in power. Maybe at light throttle but not at WOT.
Only difference I noticed was a reduction in WOT egt's of 50*-75*.

That's a common misconception - turbine shaft HP requirements decrease with backpressure; any power-reduction penalty from a larger exhaust tract is due to the corresponding decrease in gas velocity, which dictates a smaller pressure delta across the turbine.
Change of Subject!
I installed 3rd Gen Front Brake Conversion on Thursday.
Bigger 3rd Gen rotors and bigger brake pads. Supposedly 33% more stopping power.
For all 2000 - 02's interested.... it's worth doing, IMO. It's an easy update, just need 3rd Gen rotors/pads/caliper brackets.... and 17" min wheels.
I waited till yesterday afternoon before serious testing. Gave it 3 days to "wear in" pads! My observations.......
- No noticable difference around town, say under 50 mph - normal braking. Was almost disappointed.
- But serious braking/stopping at any speed... especially 70, 80 and 90 mph, is a huge improvement!
-Much better stopping and control, with no fading like I have experienced before.
It's a very worthwile saftey update, IMO, for our 4 ton trucks....and for anyone without an airbrake!

whats the cost of the upgrade RJ? did you do any fancy slotted or drilled rotor's? or high performance pads? does this mean you can't go back to a 16 inch rim? spare tire 16inch ?
Yes I know I have a 3rd gen.
Yes I know I have a 3rd gen.
Bgt second set of 06 wheels (like the race wheels you helped mount) and 315/70/17 shortly after got home from there.
Cost of the upgrade....for anyone doing pads and rotors anyway is just the 3rd Gen caliper brackets. Got them at Hoyte Dodge in Sherman for $48.00. Obviously more cost if you don't have 17" wheels.
3rd Gen, polished Al. wheels run $250-$300.00.... heck of a steal, IMO. You 3rd Gen guys don't seem to like factory wheels.
You go buy fancy after market wheels with load ratings of 2200 - 2500 lbs????
But your factory wheels are after market wheels to us 2nd genners!
...... AND they are a heck of a lot stronger.Sold my 2nd Gen factory Aluminums for $250.00.
I've been told by many experts that slotted, dimpled, etc rotors are not good idea for daily drivers. Strictly racing components.
I have always used Wagner rotors (made in USA) and Wagner Therma-Quiet pads. Had good luck with them and/or "Hawk" pads.
