Kroil must be better than PB. I soaked it down in some PB and it laughed at me.

It doesn't help that the steering linkage is in the way, so I can't get a good swing at it with a hammer. It will just have to wait till I get some heat, a puller or remove that link so I can get a good swing at it to tap it out.

Well at 180K I believe it is time to replace my 2nd set of pads on the 01... What's the verdict these days?

Something local I can pickup, not going to order...

Looks like NAPA has a few flavors in stock, think Orielys has Wagners and Brake Best or something...

I don't do 'lifetime pads', tend to wear the dang rotor instead of the pad... Rotors are as smooth as glass still, couple ridges on the outside and inside 1/4", will see what they look like when I get the wheel out of the way.

What do you automatic guys like? You seem to burn through them fast enough to make a valid comparison!?!?

OK, 3rd gen buying advice time (not for me, for my brother-in-law).

'04.5 (still confirming 04.5 vs 04) 2500 QC LB 4x4 48RE

~40K miles

What are the things to watch out for? The truck has had an easy life. I doubt it's every been loaded up and was mostly just around town miles and a few highway trips. We've got the VIN and it's a Mexico built truck. Haven't verified build date or any of the other easy identifiers for '04 vs '04.5, but we're pretty sure its an '04.5. Don't know much about service history and the only guy that would know isn't around to answer those questions anymore.

EDIT: I guess it would be helpful to add the price. They're looking for $19,500.

I have Wagner rotors and Thermoquiet pads on my 01' Auto. They have been on there for about 4 years and several mountain trips pulling heavy trailers with no issues.

I can't remember where it falls in the sequence but it is somewhere in the middle, if there is a "C" it is an 04, if it is a "6" then it is one of the 600 series (04.5),

It's the 8th character. I did some reading last night and the consensus was that you couldn't tell from the VIN. C represents the HO engine, but everything I've read said that they used C for both the '04 HO (305) and the '04.5 (325). I figured they would have put in a new value for the new engine. If they actually did use 6 for the 325/600, then this truck is an '04.

I'm having him check for the other tell-tale signs of '04.5 and I'll let you know.

Justin, If he has access to the build date........and it's after 1-1-04.....it's an 04.5. Of course, if it is still stock and has a CAT converter it's an 04.5. It should have a decal on the driver side of the engine that says 325/600 or 305/555 etc. that will also let you know. If it's still stock and there is a 3.5 inch downpipe or pipe all the way to the muffler then it's an 04. 04.5 on up have 4'' exhaust all the way back from turbo to tip. Hope that helps.

Thanks Robert. He took a look underneath and said there was no cat and it appeared to be a stock system. He didn't get a chance to look at the build date or engine yet, hopefully he'll hook up with the guy tomorrow to look it over.

Well just got back from a 600 (1400 total) or so mile trip from Mississippi in a rental Chrysler Town and Country van..........moving my mom to Texas. She is a Texan now...

Jana thinks the place we moved her to is so nice, she is jealous and wants to move there too. But she will have to settle for my place, at least for the next 40 or so years...
