Will my truck handle a 44ft trailer??

Never seen the towing fourm before some interesting reads,I posted this in fisrt gen also

I am looking at a 96 pace 44 ft shadow encolsed gooseneck (36bed 8 ft goose) to haul my sport fury from Edmonton to Carlisle Pa, its a really good deal and has everything i need in it but it is HUGE ,I would prefer a 36 total but this is to good of a deal.

my qustion is will my truck handle it??,has any one pulled any thing like this??MPG drop?? and will it be legal or is there any restrictions? the trailer is 6500lbs empty, hitch weight is 1395lbs and my car weighs in at 4250 race ready

Right now i have an open 18ft trailer and the truck pulls it like a champ still gets 17-19mpgs,

before I lay down some cash I would like to here some storys and opinions what i should expect and if this is just to heavy for the ole cummins

truck has 3.54 gears, NV4500, 16cm housing, pump up 2 1/2 turns,AFC turned a 1/4 clockwise

I will be puttin 4 inch Exh before the trip,

Thanks guys any help will be awsome

i have a 96 Pace but it is only 24'

Get ready for your fuel mileage to decrease significantly. I pull mine at 65, it's stock except a K&N and it gets around 12-13 pulling it. The aerodynamics on these trailers are what kills you the most, not the weight...

I pull a Pace 44ft enclosed trailer all the time.....but you should have more horsepower/torque

I pulled it with stock horse power 160 HP it was doggy on hills then I put in a fueling plate that gave me 230 HP and it pulls fine now

You should try a test drive with the trailer first.....that will tell you how well it will pull that size trailer....the trailer empty should be around 8500 lbs

I pul a 50 ft vintage outlaw enclosed. Its 9600 empty. I would not pull it with a stock truck, unless I absolutely had too. I put two cars in it. I get 11-13 mpg.

I would worry about tires most....esspecially without a dually.

I will say that if you get your truck to pull it well enough, you will never pull a tag again. I can hook up , disconnect , back up etc....better and faster with the 50 fter. Goosenecks are the best. Heck even a U turn can be done in the same space asa 20 ft tag.

You can never have to much room.

Sure am njoverkill, I can't wait.
will be a long haul but worth it, people will be suprised when they see a Alberta plated 68 sport fury with a big 871 bds supercharger out of the hood with demons and velocity stacks, should be good for a low 11 sec pass this year

Thanks for the replys,

my largest concern is if I will be legal on my trip and don't get bugged by the DOTS

I will only be hauling the sport fury, from what I understand and what the owners manual says is, the truck can be a total of 16 000 pounds with trailer is this right??? with the car in the trailer and all my junk Im guessing total trailer weight will be around 11 500 will this get me into trouble???

thanks guys im new to all this any help works for me

the truck will be getting a set of 190 injectors and 4' exh before the trip

You will be legal, not over lenght either. But, theres always a but... your gvw maybe close and your cgvw. Will it handle it? Thats a personal opinion , you can see my opinion since I go in at 25500 loaded.

You will probably run in 4th gear alot, most of the time at 60-64 mph with your tires.

I have "not for hire" on my trailer just to let dot know that Im not commercial and i dont stop at weigh stations or have been stopped. I have a class A due to my weight. You may need a different licence or indorsement, for over 10k towing . Watch your tire load ratings, and carry 2 spares. Weight it, weight it with the trailer empty, then weight it loaded long before your trip, so you can move things around in the trailer alittle so you dont over load your rear tires.

Get some good (****) etc trailer tow mirrors and appear well equipped and informed and dot will treat you like the responsible driver you are.

Alberta plates . I know a few guys around Edmonton pulling 36' stock trailers so I'm sure it's legal. Course they're using 3500 Dually's but you're not hauling as much weight with just one car. 4250 inside a 6500 trailer, they won't give you any trouble. 20,000 worth of cattle might put you in their bad books . Couple trips to Ponoka that scale south of Edmonton didn't like me too much.
