Why is the Hayes G2 controller cable so short???

I stuck it to the dash above the parking brake but it was at a slant and not flat.... Didn't work for the first 300 miles of my trip (kinda scary pulling a fully loaded toy hauler in the hills in the rain ).

Finally figured it out and stuck it in the door map pocket and it started working.

In other words the cable is kinda useless. I need a longer one so I can run it over to the pocket below the radio (where it will sit flat).

Guess I'll have to spend most of an afternoon making my own??

Welcome to Corporate America. it probably only would have cost another 35 - 50 cents at the mfg level pricing to do it right..

So whats your opinion of the G2 besides the cable length? Oh yea, did the manual say you have to mount flat, doesn't make sense with a 3-axis controller. If thats the case, guess maybe I'll have to go with the prodigy p2.
I have not been able to find much out about the G2 and me thinks it looks like a nice unit.

good luck with yours

If you get a MaxBrake, you can orient the unit any way you want. It is a little pricey, but she works REALLY well.

Just my unasked for 2 cents...

I only pull once a month and decided the Max Brake wasn't in my budget. But I agree I believe that system works off the brake hydrollics to determine what pressure to apply, much more real world.

I liked the Hayes once I set it in my map pocket. The thing wouldn't go above about 15% sitting on an angle like I metioned in my first post. As soon as I layed it flat in the map pocket it worked just fine. I had an old reese controller that I have no idea where I got it from (kinda just showed up ) and the hayes wasn't as jerky as the reese.

I couldn't figure out how to lock up the brakes manually. Guess I should read up on it.

Anyone know if I can get a longer cable... Guess I'll just have to make one.

My Hayes came with the truck, but the harness was long enough for the previous owner to mount it under my right knee.

Got my Hayes delivered today. You aren't kidding, that pig tail is short. I'll be going to the hardware store to fix the problem. As far as mounting, the instructions say it can be up to 90 degrees. I guess we'll see when I install it.

Mine didn't work right and wasn't nearly at 90 degrees.

Did you not get the harness with it? The harness is as long as the Tekonsha harness?
