Get the gooseneck adapter and a 4in set back ball.they work awesome and allow me to tow my other gooseneck trailers without having to move a heavy hunk of iron out of the way.

 

I pull with short box also and have had no issues (yet) but I have looked into a sidewinder hitch. It moves the pivot point from your hitch back to your kingpin position. Only thig is it sort of defeats the purpose of fifthwheel as it will create a little more sway as your pivot point will no longer be in the center of your rear axle.

 

I looked into the Sidewinder hitch and wasn't fully confident on its function of design. I could be totally off base too but it just doesn't seem like a good concept.

 

Just finished our annual camping trip in the hills. Did just fine with my B&W Companion.
