I want to use the mag covers and go to syn oils but am just learning about all of this diesel stuff and have heard many different stories, especially chipping

2500 vs 3500 for your truck? Same rear end, same trans, same front diff. So the same mag-hytec covers. 11.5" AA&M in the rear, the 10.5" was for SO 3G's only..

There is no frame difference, or spring difference,

For 3G's there is a spring difference. And 3500's can be had as single rear wheel.

In addition to the new vehicle sticker, there's a decal/paper sticker stuck to the bottom of the inside of the glove box that lists diff sizes and some other info. Nat

This was the question and this is what I responded to. My post is accurate for 24 valve second gen trucks.

The 3500 one ton is also available with single rear wheels.

Go to Dealers Parts Dept w/ your VIN#, ask for "build sheet". Should be no charge...lists everything!

Excellent logic!

Actually, your probably about right. I'm at 7200 lbs with full fuel & me in the drivers seat of my long bed. I carried 2,000 lb from Dallas to LA, putting me 400 lb over gross. I did give the overload springs (tow package) some exercise but rear never saged, mileage was same as around town with me averaging 75-80 mph and the Cummins diesel didn't even notice!

Yep you are 100% right.

Course it had the one ton front and rear without the tow package and the plow package. They are all the same if they have the Cummins.

Once again the difference in the late second gen 2500 and 3500 is the dual wheels, some have narrower rear brakes, and the door sticker is different. 2500 has an 8800 pound GVWR and they all have the same GCWR. Mine is 20,300 pounds GCWR and it is a 2500. My axles and springs are the same, the rear brake cylinders are the same the shoes are 1 inch narrower.

Here is a little grey area, you have automatic, you may only have the Dana 70 rear and you have the smaller turbo housing. See a 2500 manual is built heavier than a 3500 automatic. Go figure....

I believe there's a difference between the Dana 80 axles in the 2500 and the 3500. The 80s in the 2500 are "hybrids" with lighter outer components. The 3500 has a "true" 80.

There's also a difference between the transfer cases, if you have a 4x4. The 2500 comes with the 241, while the 3500 comes with the 241HD, which has a stronger chain and bearings. The HD can be ordered as an option on the 2500.

That is not true, both the 2500 and 3500 are hybred with Dana 80 centers and Dana 70 axles. Want to look at a true 80 look at a F450.

Wonder why so many want to argue that the two are the same with single wheels... jeez...

I had to replace an axle a while back. Spline count and diameter on my unit are different than the 2500. Could be a model year difference, I'll look in to it.
