Bigger rear axle and bigger rear brakes and extra set of wheels.

All changes are in the rear only for more PIN weight capability and GVWR is 9900 generally instead of 8800.

The rear axle on the 2500 is a Dana 80. The rear axle on the 3500 is a Dana 80. The only difference is springs and 2 more tires.

Dufrain, I think you're right. In 98 i think they went to the Dana 80. I think there maybe some autos that were 70's until 03. Or maybe all autos in the 2500's were 70's.

do they have a rear stabilizer bar

I think the rear stabilizer bar was part of the slide in camper package. I forget what year that started to become an option.

I would think the frames are diff too?

I had a 1500 burban that i installed 3/4 ton axles on and was trying to make truck more heavy duty and in my quest to do this i found the following diff between 1/2 and 3/4

3/4 has
larger brakes
larger brake lines
larger master cylinder,
different proportion valve
heavier springs
slightly thicker frame (on GM it was only by about an 1/18th of an inch) wich over the length of a suburban adds alot of metal.
heavier leaf springs.
Larger axles, hubs,

Just my .02

That's interesting, because on my 93 250 4 speed auto, I have a Dana 60 rear axle rated at 5840 lbs. Did I get short changed or what?

Where do I get a list of EXACTLY what I have in my 2004.5 Cummins 3500 vs. the 2500?

I want to use the mag covers and go to syn oils but am just learning about all of this diesel stuff and have heard many different stories, especially chipping

1/2 ton to 3/4 ton is a HUGE difference between 3/4 ton and 1 ton.

Put dual wheels and a little larger brakes on the (second gen) 2500 and you have the same as a 3500. The later models even had the same brakes.

There is no frame difference, or spring difference, drive line is the same. Biggest difference is name tags and dual wheels.

It's not a Ford or GM, they are different with the 3/4 being a lighter truck.
