Let's say I'm buying some heavy equipment in Texas and I'm in Oklahoma... so I drive down in my 3/4ton CTD and 20ft trailer rated at 14k lbs to pick up the equipment. it weights say 8k+ lbs, so with trailer/truck/load I'm grossing out 20k+ lbs.

I've always been told that if equipment is owned by driver. and it's not a commercial for hire haul. then it's legal to haul.
otherwise every 10k lb RV pulled by personally owned 1ton or 3/4 ton CTD's or what ever would in violation.

That puts them over 10,000 lbs. gcw and the driver better have a medical card , DOT inspection on the truck and trailer and more .

I meant FIT not weight. 2.5 tons would fit weight wise but I don't know if they will fit dimension wise.

There's a lot of variables here . No , you don't need authority with MC number to haul equipment you own . Be sure you carry proof of ownership . You will still need a medical card and DOT inspection on the truck and trailer as well as reflective triangles and a mounted fire extinguisher . You might need a log book , depending on how many miles you run . It might help to put not for hire signs on the truck . In your situation I really doubt they bother you .

Thanks, I always have a fire extinguisher after my alternator fire a few weeks ago... (stupid alternators going out)

And I don't have any signs of any kind for them to suspect I'm not hauling for myself, and I do have horses if they really want to get into it.

Do I have to go to a weigh station since my truck alone has a GVWR of 11,000lb's???
