v-nose vs. flat cargo trailer
v-nose vs. flat cargo trailer
I am looking to buy a cargo trailer. I borrowed a friend's 7X16 tandem axle flat nose and got 13.3 mpg loaded and empty round trip to FL. Anyone pull both and noticed much of a diff in mileage? I need to get one in the next couple of weeks.
I dont know to much about mileage differences or the trailers, but I do know that you best have some sort of mud flap on your truck or some sort of caoting on the trailer, or rocks will beat the heck out of it down a dirt road... Good Luck!
What are you gonna use it for? The reason I ask is, the V-nose can also come with a ramp door in front. I love mine.
You can also jacknife them farther.
As far as fuel consumption, I couldn't tell you. I've never had the same situation with two different trailers to give an accurate comparison.
Good luck with whatever you get, and don't forget to post back with pics!

yes, I have mudflaps.
It is a Cargo South. The trailer has diamond plate protection in the front and up the middle. I am using it to move household goods for now.
Thanks for the input.

I bought a new 16ft trailer last year, did not get the V-nose for what ever reason ( i dont think I could get 8ft width in a v-nose and did not want 7ft or 8.5 ft ). You need to check to see where the measurment for length is taken, on a lot of models it is the length of the side wall, meaning you get more space in a v-nose. I wish now I had paid more attention to that because the extra couple of feet in front would allow me to get things out of the way sometimes. If buying new, also check on adding height, added 1ft to mine, makes it tow a little harder, but it is awful nice NOT EVER having to duck + my new little tractor with the ROPS will fit in it. Try to think of what you might want to do with the trailer, much cheaper to buy once then to trade to get what you need later.
Good luck,

i'm with Duane.
bought a 24ft flat nose to move in.
i used it for EVERYTHING.
some guy wanted it, sold it,
now, have to borrow a buddies 24 all the time.
a 24 is too big, but a 20 ft v-nose would probably be perfect,
if you measure 20 from the full width portion, and have a few cubic feet of cubby hole in the v-nose.
a toy hauler is what i would buy now if $$ were no issue.
having a place to park it is a consideration.
my yard is big, so i used the 24 foot for all my yard tools & motorcycle storage.
think about it ALOT before you buy something little.

I have a 26' V-Nose and I can't tell you if I get better mileage than a similar flat front trailer but the extra space up front sure is nice. i can fit two small cars inside because of the nose....
