anyone have any idea if a truck topper will easily go from a 2nd gen to a 3rd gen short box?

hay i was woundering this same thing. found a nice 2nd gen shell. but nobody knows if it will fit.

 

I have one that I share between my '01 and '03 as the need arises. Its designed for the '01 but fits the '03 no problem. However it doesn't look quite right.

I don't care though, it only goes on for a specific task then comes back off. If you are concerned about looks and plan to leave it on permanently you'll probably want to find a 3rd gen specific topper. If you just want to throw it on occasionally to haul garbage it will work fine.

 

BTW this is for a long box. I would guess that a SB would fit about the same Unless you have a mega cab as that has an odd ball box length.

 

3rd Gen Mega Cab and Quad Cab short bed use exact same bed. Caps are interchangable.

Not sure about 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen though.

 

My bad. I could have sworn the Mega Cab used a 6 1/2 foot box or something like that.

Short bed QCs and MCs are the same size. 6.5' long

The caps will interchange between 2nd gens and 3rd gens but they are slightly different sizes. It doesn't look bad but it's not a perfect fit. I did this when I sold my 98 truck and bought an 03 truck.

 

I think the 2nd gen box, short beds, is about an inch or so longer than the 3rd gen. So it should work but as stated previously, it won't be a perfect match. I am currently using an ARE utility top that was on a chevy sb on my mega cab. It isn't perfect but the price was!
