what seats will work 2rd or 3rd gen?

i really lucked out, the guy who moved in next door to me owns a salavge yard! i went to talk to him about some seats for my truck. my wife didn't like the 17 hour trip with the bench seat and not being able to recline. he's got a set of seats out of the 2000 that had the 4 door, i know the seatbelts were different. he's also got some out of a 99 2 door. so here are the questions

1. do any of them just "bolt in" with no mods?
2. will the 3 gen seats work at all?
3. he said $100-$150 sounded great to me, do you guys agree?
4. are the seats the same out of a gas truck as the diesel?

he said if he doesn't have what i want that he'd be getting a bunch more dodge stuff in the next 2 weeks or so (he's almost out of truck beds doors and fenders for the dodges) cv Agggggggggggghgggggggggggggggggggggggggggg9

my appologies.... my 8 month old nephew added his own little section at the end there and was nice enough to post it somehow as well...lol....

anyways my neighbor can also look for exactly what i want at the auction so i am trying to figure out what seats would be the easiest to put in and the most comfortable.

I don't think that either 2nd or 3rd gen seats will just bolt in. do you have extended cab or regular? Seats out of a regular cab won't recline like you want at least not very far. Any seat can be made to put in even from a chevy or a ford. I would just find a seat that you like and have brackets made or make brackets to install them.

Also that is a great price for seats, I was quoted 300 for the one I wanted and it wasn't in perfect shape!!

ok... well i was looking at the aftermarket ones that cost like $700 so a couple hundred and making a few brackets doesn't sound bad... i ask cause i have heard guys taking them out of 2nd gens but hadn't heard of anyone using them from a 3rd gen. didn't know if there was a specific reason.

Just put some 2nd gen out of a 98 Quad Cab in mine. They don't "bolt right in."

1. Have to make custom brackets/mounts/frame. The 1st gen floor is much more "hilly" than the later models.
2. Don't know about 3rd gen seats. I prefer the 2nd gen seats.
3. That's an excellent price! Paid $350 for mine.
4. As far as I know gas are the same as diesel. They just don't smell sooty!

You can take a look at my pics. There's some shots of the 3" risers I made for the seats. A more graceful, but more labor-intense way to mount them would be to cut down the inside brackets to fit the floor contour.

I don't know if there is a best choice, for an extended cab you wouldn't want a seat out of a regular cab as they probably don't tilt forward to get in the back as much. People probably don't use the 3rd gens as much cause there aren't as many out there, too new. Just find something you like!

I just put the seats out of a 96 in my 92. they do not bolt right in. but if you have a drill motor and some material for risers you can git-r-done. the risers for the back legs are 3 inches tall, the front outside bolt to the floor, and the risers for the front inside legs are 3/4 inch tall. Now it feels like I'm driving a new truck. They sit a quite a bit higher, But I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall and they are perfect for me. Hope this helps. by the way, I gave 215.00 for mine from a fellow bomber out of Vancouver B.C.

Yeah, I love them at the height they are at. You do have to be mindful getting in the truck or you'll hit your heat on the door jam/roof. I'm 5'10" and my head is about 2 inches from the roof when I'm seated. But now I don't feel like the factory tach, on the dashboard by the pillar, is in my line of sight anymore. It makes the truck feel like a big rig, in that you sit higher, and it makes it feel smaller also, in that you have better visibility. If I were doing it over again...I might try and shape the inside rails a little so that it could sit maybe an inch lower...so 2 inches up instead of 3 inches.

well i am about 6'2 so i may need to shape it down a little more i guess... i'll take a closer look at the 3rd gen seat to see if that fit differently. one more question... are the seatbelts attached as a part of the seat? or do you use the stock on the door jam?

Seats from a Quad Cab will have the belts integrated into the seats. Some wiring is required as there is an inertia switch located under the middle seat that release the locking cams on the belts. The cams lock if they don't have power. I have the pin-out for the connecter if you need it. I believe regular cab seats will NOT have seatbelts attached.

That's o.k. And yes the seat belts are mounted to the legs of the seats on my 96 seats. And I forgot to mention that the back inside legs are also mounted to the floor without spacers. You wont believe the difference these seats make.
