tripod or stabalizers?

Ok I asked this once and it seemed that everyone thought the stabalizers are better than the tripod for a 5er. I am talking about the add on like JT Strong Arm. A freind was taking his new 5er to the shop and I went along, he was going to have them installed while we were there and they said, junk just get a tripod. They eventually rust up and will not tighten. I am so confused now, I want one or the other and whichever is best.

I am looking at a set of PlugItRight stabilizers for our 5th wheel. I have been reading good reviews about them and the price is right. A tripod stabilizer will not work with our Sidewinder hitch pin so that is out.

Definatly get stabilizers. I made a set w/the same concept of the Strongarms for about $68 total for 6 of them. Made a HUGE difference. I seriously doubt those JT's will rust up, I think they were full of crap.

I have a different brand, not JT. They are pretty well made and appear to be powder coated. They might rust in time, especially in country where salt is used on roads. But, the price was reasonable, and they do a much better job than the tri-pod, IMO.

ya some pics of the home made ones would be great or maybe some sort of parts list. I was thinking of going that route and just could not come up with what i felt would work good.

Danavilla, yours are the same thing as the JT's but JT's were bought out by Camco, I believe, so yours are one in the same. The ones I made are pretty similar to these http://rockinlock.com/ but I did it my way to fit my specific 5er & it was easy. Weld a nut to the tubing & use all-thread as the bolt w/a solid stick of steel about 4" long as the handle. HTH

I have the PlugItRight stabilizers on my 32 ft fifth. Work pretty well, but still a little movement. Work better than the tripod they replaced.

I use a really good tripod and put a lot of weight on the rear stabilizers and the window blinds don't even wiggle. Craig

Dude. A bit of tubing, a couple of nuts and bolts, and a welder, and you got a set. I might just make up a set.

It is REALLY easy. The only thing you have to weld is some nuts on some tubing & rod onto all-thread. SUPER easy!

i have a air ride pin box so the tripod stabilizer was a pain to get set up right, its also a pain in general to set up.
so i installed a set of the JT's strong arms. they help out immensely, we have a 35' 5er with quad bunks in the back with 2 little ones bouncing around all the time. the strong arms helped eliminate all the sway and shaking we use to have.
