Trailer wiring on a relay?
Trailer wiring on a relay?
The wiring pigtail on my travel trailer is too short to connect to my truck with the receiver mounted air-ride hitch that I use so I need to extend it. One option would be to splice onto it and add the needed length. I don't particularly care for that option because the splices would be within 18" of the end unless I cut it way back and add on a longer length of wire.
The other option that I was thinking about would be to add a panel with multiple relays close to the battery box and terminate the existing harness to the relay outputs. Then use the RV battery as the relay power source and create a new pigtail using the truck outputs as relay triggers. Has anyone seen this type of setup? What would be the pros or cons to doing it this way?
Thanks in advance for whatever input you might have.

I would just add a new molded pigtail to the trailer like on of these:

If the trailer does not have a junction box up front for the tie in install one of these as well:
