trailer wiring

trailer wiring

having trouble hooking up brake controler. i can only get the green light to come on when i stick my testlight on the blue wire coming out of the controler. why?

this is a 12,000 lb dump traailer. there is a "brakeaway switch" that has 2 wires going to it that have been cut. is this why i cant get it to work?

Your brake controller needs a complete circuit through the coils before you get a green light. When you use your test light, the bulb may be producing just enough resistance to fool the controller into believing you have brakes hooked up. The cut breakaway wires should not (at least I don't think they should) interupt your normal brake operation. I would look for a loose or broken wire between your plug and the grounded brake. Remember brakes are wired in series. Good luck..
