Towing with the Megacab

Well here's my first post. Looking for some feedback on towing with a 3500. I'm considering the purchase of an 06 Megacab dually 4x4 and was interested in hearing from folks that tow with the Auto transmission. I've seen the #15500 rating at the Dodge website with 4:10's, but how doest it really tow? I currently pull #14k behind my 97 F350 (4" lift w/35s', 4:10's and a Banks Powerpack) and it sucks bigtime in the mountains. I see a lot of Dodge 3500's on the highway as car transports so I'm sure someone can give some advice.

Thanks!

Dan

Thumbs up

I have a 30ft Proline Center Console that scales about 10k with fuel, water & trailor. Truck will tow it at 85mph in overdrive with cruise no problem. I also have a 40ft Puresport 5th wheel toy hauler scales at 17k loaded. Truck will run as fast as you want in overdrive with cruise, on flat ground. I have only been in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina but the truck did great there as well. I had a 05 powerjoke with full banks before this truck the A/C would cut off at speeds over 70mph with the 5th wheel and I would not dare take that truck in the mountains. It was a joke of a diesel compared to my mega cab. Go get the mega with the CTD, you will not regret it.

I have the 3.73 gears in my mega drw 4X4. I pull my 36ft trailer that weighs 12k. I gross out at 20k. This truck is a monster. I can pull it as fast as I want. I don't travel through mountains, but I can say that my truck rarely comes out of overdrive while pulling a hill at highway speed. It is amazing to me how this truck can hold speed while climbing a hill.

I know I'm a lot lighter than you, but I pull a 9000-lb travel trailer with a 1200-lb golf cart in the bed with my 3.73's and 35" tires and the truck doesn't even work hard.

I tow heavy (23k gross) regularly with my Megacab and no problems at all. It pulls much better than my old 6 speed Powerstroke that had a ton of mods.

I have a 2004.5 dually. I tow a 37 ft 5er that is about 14K. I gross around 22K with all my extra fuel in my onboard tank. I pull from London ON through NM to Az at highways speeds in OD. It shift down once in a while on real tough hills. I keep it at 2K rpm most of the time ~ 65-70MPH. I get 10-12 MPG depending on the hills. 12 on flat 10+ in the hills. Lots of power, all stock. Love it
Hope this helps.

cheers frankb
