T/C lockup switch...bad idea?

I have a 96 bone stock tranny. I tow a 5 ton trailer once in a great while. I thought about how nice it would be to help slowdown and to keep it from dropping from 3rd into 2nd when I know i'm almost at the top of a hill etc.

I have already installed the switch, I just have to go to the dealer to get a new code flashed in so it will function properly.

What's the verdict out there as far as if used properly with transmission life?

Thanks in advance!
