Struggling with decision

The wife wants us to get a RV. Now here is the problem, I roadrace motorcycles so we really need to get something that can haul my bike, parts, tires, etc... to the track. She wants something that has some room to it so that we can use it for vacations as well.

the problem is that seems to limit us to a 5th wheel toy hauler. Just about every one I have found (not done looking yet) could be an issue with the 2500.

What do you think is a good number to look at staying with in as far as pin weight is concerned? Also, will loadeing the garage area of a toy hauler decrease the pin weight since it behind the axle?

I kinow what the ratings for the truck are and I am not asking if it is OK to exceed that.

Any ideas on a good Toy Hauler, 5th or tag?

I did some looking and Carson Trailer has a very nice 5th wheel.

Carson Trailer 5th Wheel

The floorplan is very nice in my mind. As to weight if you get the 28 ft one your still under 15000 lbs and a 2500 should be able to handle that one.

Weekend Warrior makes a lite Tag toy hauler trailer from 22-30 ft....the Tagalongs are not as high so the ramp is not as steep as many of the goosenecks and 5th wheels are for loading

My brother has a 2500 Chevy with the tow package which drags a 30' 5th wheel just fine. I would think your 2500 4x4 would do just fine also. 4x4's have a better suspension I think. You might need a trans cooler though but I don't have much experience with the Dodge auto's. I prefer sticks cause they will take more abuse IMHO.

Toy haulers usually have a heavier pin weight when they're empty to maintain a good pin weight with the garage loaded. I like the Sportsmen Sportster toy haulers. Don't know about long term quality. Our 5th wheel has a 1900 lb pin weight with a 140 lb hitch and 100~lb tool box in the bed. I've towed it with three 2500s and they've done good with that weight. No helpers or air bags of any kind.

Look at any race trailer manufacturer. Just about all of them make trailers w/ living qaurters. Go to www.racingjunk.com and look at all of the trailers they have. Good Luck

If it was just me and I was buying something just for the track that is waht I would do. After a few years of racing and living out of a 6x15 trailer while at the track the wife wants some "real" comfort.

I think we have narrowed it down to 2 maybe 3 different models. We have found a fifth wheel we like with a lighter pin weight (about 1700lbs). There are some others that we like but with a pin weight of 2000 to 2100 lbs I am unsure about them.
