Southern California in Jan and Feb????

My brother is going to Mexicali for 2 months. He just bought a new 5th and is going. He is new to RV world but will manage well enough. We were talking about what he will need down there at this time. Being Praire boys here in Canada our camping supplies have a need for insect fighting tools. Just curious as to how much of that type of things does a guy need at this time of year. I am sure he can purchase down there at better prices anything he needs, just his wife is the type that would like to know what to expect to run across. Sorry this got kinda long. I wish I was heading south for a couple months.

RRAM,you might want to look at rv.net.Go to begining rv'ing, and there are long lists of how to outfit/what to pack.
Also, you could enter a search in the class a section for Mexico.Be prepared for a lot of reading.

Bugs?

I don't know about Mexico but here in Northern Los Angeles County during the past 24 Months we have averaged less than .1" of rain a month. We have no bugs, no Mice, no groundcover. We do have wind and dust! I don't think you will need much in the way of Insect "Tools." Be sure to bring some clean water for yourself.

RR,you HAVE HEARD about the problems in Northern Mexico yes? Some of my friends are NOT going to run The Baja this year because of the "activity"down south by gangs and,do not even think of bringing Any weapons into Mexico.

no have not heard of the problems. its actually my brother going but I think he is parking his rig in someones back yard there. He is going down to do some work on a houseing project or something. Taking guns will the last thing on his mind. He didnt want to go down looking like a rich canadian and was going to pull his 26 ft hail damaged 86 5th down there. Then a few good things happened to him , now he has a brand new 30 ft Campanion and new 07 quad. there goes the image. Not that he is rich. Well thanks for all the insight, I hope he goes and has a good time and no life changing encounters with the low lifes we have all over.

If he is driving a diesel truck, tell him to sleep in it!! They are a thief target as soon as you get over the border! I used to live there but we won't even go down now,,way too dangerous!

Discover Baja insurance.

If he goes, contact; www.discoverbaja.com. They'll sell him a good Mexican insurance policy and supply necessary visas etc. online. The policy is underwritten by an American company and will repair/replace the vehicle in case of damage or theft in American labor rates/values. The others compensate you in Mexican rates. Includes towing and a lawyer,he'll need one. I'm 15 miles from the border and rarely go anymore. Sucks,I miss it.

I agree. Years ago we felt fairly safe in Mexico. I don't thinkl I'll be going there anymore though. Besides, I'd rather spend my money in the U.S., even though my truck was built there!!!
