Is this slide in camper worth the money

I have this posted on IRV2, but I thought some of you may be able to give your opion's.

I know an older gentleman that has a 2000 Palamino 1500.

Spec's

9.5'
a/c, 13,000 btu
heat 18,00 btu
inside shower and stool
6 gal hot water heater
water pump
3 cu' fridge with freezer

I'll admit I know nothing about camper's. His bottom dollar is $4,000. It seem's to be very clean inside and out. The one big thing that concern's me is 3 out of 4 corner's where the canvas conects to the body are gooped up with sylicone. And the other one is coming apart and need's repaired. Is this a common problem with these thing's. Is it no big deal, or should I run away from this thing.

I tried getting him down on the price, but he won't budge. He actually started at $4,500. I told him I only had $3,000, and he said I could pay him off on the rest. I don't know that I would really take him up on that part of the deal, but it would be nice to be able to have that extra cash to get set up.

I guess I'll save the rest of the question's until I find out if the corner's are a problem or not, and if that's a good price. Thank's for any input.

Four years ago, I sold a three yo 8'3" Palamino with no air or batthrrom or hot water for $4000. It did't even have an electric water pump. It was in near new condition. From what I understand, the canvas problems or pretty much common, although I didn't have a problem in three years with mine.

Just for a comparison, late last summer, I bought a 1994 Lance Squire, 8'3", for $3500. (Pics in gallery) It was in exceptionally good shape for an 11 yo. Fully self contained with a queen size bed and everything on it worked.

I think it'a little high, but nada.com doesn't.

I've got a 8' Northstar popup on my truck and the lower corners have developed small holes on two sides. I have checked out some used ones and it does seem to be a common issue. A little silicone fixes it up though. I would call around to a few dealers and find out what replacing the canvas would be. Climb up and check vents for proper seal too! Mine's a 2000 and I would hope it's worth more than this guy is asking for the Palomino.

Let me add: Location makes a difference in price. I was going to Colorado anyway, so I took mine up there and sold it for about $300 more then I could get for it down here. I done the same thing with a truck one time.

Not seeing it, it sounds like it's nice. You can also tell by why he's selling it, ect. if he had it in the back of some 68 ford that's beat the heck, yeah, but if he has a new 06 chevy sitting there, he problably took care of it. I've been looking. Would love to get a slide in, but then again it would be hard to tow the trailer with, and or, we tent camp, so i don't want to lose that. But then again, if a good deal comes up, it's purchase time

TAS. that is MHO after 30 plus years of truck camping.
I'm not a politician,so , I stated MO that 4000 is a waste of money for a pop up that has bad canvas ,as they can be expensive to repair. , there are better deals to be had

My opinion is, better to buy a new left over , if a pop up is a requirement, than one that will require expensive
repairs

I ask , if I bought it, could I sell it for the same price,
if not, it's a bad deal...

My omission was, to not have stated my reasons for the
comment, Thank you for pointing out my rudeness..

No rudeness to apologize for. There are lots of "Younger" people on here so when some people see a short comment like that with no explination some people make sure that there not being sarcastic.

Your explination was good. I did look at a pop up camper once and it was around 700 for new canvis (although the canvas shop said they could do it for about 450 with better canvis) but that's very good stuff. I didn't even realize he was talking about a pop up.

There's people on here with a ton of knowledge and what you told me is exaxtly what badrammerjammer is problablly looking for. I would love to buy a slide in but wouldn't have anywhere to put the quads (couldn't tow the trailer with a big pop up)

You'll see that here, as I'm sure all sites have it, sometimes you find people just say something and don't even realize that to us learners, it dosen't make sence to us. I work in BioTech medical field, I'm sure others wouldn't have a clue what processes I do, but I don't know Nothing about a camper

Well lets see if I can get this figured out. The canvas is not bad. Just the way it attache's to the body of the camper has come loose. Like I said, I know nothing about these thing's. Would I neccasarily need new canvas. I have no idea. Anyone know what I'm talking about. I might try to get out there and take a pic.

"NADA"

I spent 35 yrs in the consumer credit bidness down in Texas....when it comes
to RV's or Boats, you can throw the NADA out the window. I do NOT know
where they get the figures from....ALWAYS way too high.

As far as the original question goes.....if you want it, buy it. Be prepared for
upkeep. If you want to just try it out a year or two then sell it, let it go....
too much.
