Slide in camper on a 05

Is it recommended to put a slide in camper on the back of a 2005 quad swb Ram?

I see more and more campers being sold for the 6.5 bed and just wondered. I know in the manual it does say about going to the dealer to read about this, they just are not open when I am around.

Is it mainly because of Weight Dist. that is a problem?

Thanks.

Wondering the same about an 03...thought I saw something about campers
"not" recomended on this site one time. I really don't think a 6.5 to an 8 footer would hurt...anybody know ??....HOUTEX

I would think if you put a 8' camper in a 6'6" bed you would have a weight distribution problem!

That I can understand. But I have seen more and more truck campers coming out with campers for a 6.5 bed but then they extend past the back some. I was looking at HOST campers. www.hostcampers.com is one place. I was at a RV show and they showed a really nice single slide of one on a Duramax. By the time we went around to the others and came back, it was gone so I never got to talk to them about it.

I just read in the manual about going to the dealer to read about campers and loading.

If the weight center line was ahead of the rear axle I suppose it could be 10' camper. I guess I would go to the dealer or wait for some been there done that feeback here. Sorry I couldn't help more!

Why? I have a 11.5' camper in a 8' bed and there are no weight distribution problems......there are many 8 - 9' campers out there designed for short box pick ups........and I have no clue why DC would not approve the use of a slide-in camper.....maybe they want you to get the camper package first?

My 05 came with a little warning card in the owners manual about not using a slide in camper. Now, there was no camper option. I asked the crack sales staff, and their answer was it is Dodge's way of getting off the liability hook in case of an accident.
Wanna run a camper? Make sure you study the weight, and center of gravity to see if you are within limits.
Then, go for it.

I have an 03 2500 Qcab 6 ft bed and haul a sunlite 800 TC which is made for short or long bed. I leave the tailgate down with my 6 ft bed. The center of gravity on this model is ahead of axle and hauls great with a 19 ft boat in tow.

I have an 04 quad sb 3500, and haul an 860 Arctic Fox camper with a slide out that weighs 4900 lbs when full, and the truck handles it with no problems. The camper is specifically designed to fit a short box truck, with weight distribution as a key design feature. can't see any reason why DC would have a problem with it, its a truck, its meant to haul stuff.

Cool. That is what I thought. As long as the weight is distributed properly and it is within the limits of the truck. I figure it shouldn't be a problem. I would add some Air-bags in the back as my truck is only a 2500 and would hope to get a slide-out so I know that weight would be there and would rather be safe then sorry.

Thanks for all replies.
