SHortbed and Fifth Wheel

Just bought a nice used 30 foot fifth wheel RV and need hitch advice. The trailer is only 8900 lbs dry so weight is well in my range.

I have a short bed 2500 and I see coupler extensions and sliders. What works best to gain cab clearance?

OK read a little more and it looks like slider is the way to go to get bettrer turning. Coupler adds length and only improves turning not getting to 90 degrees.

Anyone using the automatic sliders? Any other advice?

I am looking into getting the Reese 16k round tube slider. Hear good things about it. It is a manual slider though.

I think if I were running a 5th wheel with a short box I'd probably cough up the change for an auto slider, like a Superglide.

I know if I didn't, somewhere sometime I'd make a turn that I didn't think was all that tight, trying not to hold up traffic...

I'm thinking the same. One wrong turn pays for the hitch and then some. I'm also looking at the 5th ariborn pin box since the current coupler on my trailer is too short for a shrt bed truck too.

I've been using a Husky 16K EZ ROLLER Slider 5th Wheel Hitch for about 6 years now with no problem, go's for about $1,000 plus labor to install, plus you'll need a frame kit. It's a manual slider but you only need to slide it back when backing into tight spaces or making sharp U-turns, over 80*.

You should have made a deal with the Dealer when buying your 5er, (if you got it from a Dealer).

I swapped out a Reese manual slide for a Pullrite Superglide. Pricey but IMO worth the $$. Tows much nicer than the Reese and not having to hastle with the slide is wonderful

Just finished moving the axles below the springs so the trailer fits the truck. Pullrite is on it's way with a 5th airborn pin box.

A manual will work but for the ease of use I went with the Pullrite.

Well back to work on the bearing & brake service. Next weekend is hitch installation.

Hope to be on the road by laborday!

Thanks for the reply's!

Slider

You will not be sorry you went with the Pullrite Superglide. I have had one on my truck since 03 and they work great and the peace of mind is worth the extra bucks they cost.

5th Airborne/Sidewinder combo coupler, takes the bump out of the trailer and your hitch costs less and stays mounted solid. Costs the same as a Superglide and does all the work for you. Search 5th Airborne and watch the video. PK

The don't make a sidewinder or 5th Airboarn sidewinder for the RBW tube type pin box I have on the trailer. Also it turns out if your starting from scratch like me(My previous rig wall a pull behind) the cost is about the same cost for a slider and 5th airborn.

read the instructions all the way through if you plan on installing your superglide yourself. i had ended up drilling the 4 holed for the hitch pins about 1/4" off per the detailed drawing, then read in the instructions that you need to determine if the holes might need to be moved around due to the rear frame cross memeber being in the way. luckily everthing works and i didnt need to redrill the holes.
